The A25 Oxted Road, a vital thoroughfare, has been closed since late October, with Surrey County Council estimating repairs could extend into the new year. Despite these hurdles, the community is united in its efforts to ensure a vibrant Christmas season. Godstone Farm and Playbarn, a major local attraction, exemplifies this determination. Their “Father Christmas experience” is already 75% booked, indicating strong public interest. Similarly, The Star pub, located close to the closure, initially experienced a dip in trade but is now seeing a promising resurgence in Christmas party bookings, highlighting customers’ willingness to navigate alternative routes to support local establishments.

The Godstone Village Community Association is also forging ahead with its annual Christmas Festival on December 2nd. This event, featuring stalls, entertainment, and a Santa’s Grotto, is being widely promoted, with free parking offered to encourage attendance. The sinkhole itself, measuring approximately three metres deep and six metres wide, formed after heavy rainfall. Its repair is a complex engineering task involving underground utilities and the installation of a new culvert, necessitating a multi-week closure.
