Major Revamp for Haslemere Hospital
Haslemere Hospital, established shortly after World War I, is poised for a significant transformation following the announcement of £1 million in funding from the Royal Surrey NHS Trust. This project marks the most substantial upgrade for the facility since its inception in 1923. The funding will be directed toward refurbishing two empty wards, which will be repurposed for outpatient and day care services. With the recent expansion of the Urgent Treatment Centre, the hospital aims to broaden its range of healthcare offerings to better serve local residents.
Enhancing Community Healthcare Services
The Royal Surrey NHS Trust has emphasized the importance of integrating healthcare services within the community. The new funding will support the establishment of an integrated neighbourhood team at Haslemere Hospital, consolidating hospital, primary care, and community services under one roof. This initiative aligns with local residents' desires for expanded outpatient clinics and services designed for long-term conditions, helping patients receive care closer to home. By addressing these areas, the Trust aims to reduce the dependency on hospital-based care in Guildford and surrounding areas.
Future Plans and Local Engagement
Local consultations have revealed a strong community appetite for innovative health services. In addition to the new facilities, the Trust plans to launch a long-term conditions hub in June, initially focusing on cardiology care. This hub is expected to support about 50 patients weekly and will expand to cover a wider array of health conditions over time. The Royal Surrey Trust encourages ongoing community engagement, with representatives attending local events such as the Haslemere Charter Fair to discuss the hospital’s developments and gather feedback from residents, ensuring that the project meets community needs.
